Your chart forms the Yue Jie structure (月劫格)

庚午 辛巳 丁丑 丁未

Yue Jie structure (月劫格)

How it was found

  1. 1The Day Master is 丁.
  2. 2Born in a 巳 month; the month branch hides 丙, 庚, 戊.
  3. 3The month's main qi 丙 is the Day Master's Rob Wealth; for a yin Day Master this is called Yue Jie.
  4. 4So the chart forms the Yue Jie structure (月劫格).

No strong helpers or breakers: a steady structure where luck pillars and years make the difference.

Ten gods combinations in your chart

The structure is taken from the month branch (Zi Ping Zhen Quan). Helpers and breakers count stems and branch main qi only; special structures (follow, dominant) need the whole chart.

About Rob Wealth

How to read a Bazi structure, in four steps

The structure is a chart's skeleton. It is read from the month branch: whichever of its hidden stems shows on a heavenly stem names the structure. The structure sets the chart's theme; supporting and breaking factors decide how well it works.

  1. 1

    Find the Day Master

The day pillar's stem is the Day Master; every ten god is read from it.

  2. 2

    List the month's hidden stems

The month branch commands the chart. Write down its hidden stems: main, middle and residual qi.

  3. 3

    See which one shows

The hidden stem that shows on the year, month or hour stem names the structure; if none shows, the main qi does. A month branch that is the Day Master's prosperity or Goat Blade gives the Jian Lu or Goat Blade structure.

  4. 4

    Check helpers and breakers

Find the gods that support the structure and those that break it (Hurting Officer meeting the Officer, the owl stealing the food), then weigh the Day Master's strength.

Use directly or by restraint: four auspicious and four fierce structures

Wealth, Officer, Resource and Eating God are benign gods, used directly: feed and protect them. Seven Killings, Hurting Officer, the Owl and the Goat Blade are fierce gods, used by restraint: control and transform them. It is the first principle of reading structures.

財官印食,此用神之善而順用之者也;煞傷梟刃,此用神之不善而逆用之者也。
Zi Ping Zhen Quan, 'On the Useful God'

The ten structures

Special structures: follow and dominant

When the Day Master is extremely weak and the chart is all Wealth, Officer or Output, it may 'follow' that force (follow Wealth, Killings or Output). When it is extremely strong and the chart is all one family, it may form a dominant structure. These aren't taken from the month branch but from the whole chart, and the calculator here doesn't cover them.

  4. 04《滴天髓》On the character of the stems and the momentum of the elements; best known through Ren Tieqiao's commentary.
