Tai Yang's palace and its three sides
This palaceOppositeTrineWhat is the Tai Yang star?
Tai Yang is Yang Fire, transforms into honour (貴) and belongs to the Zi Wei group, sitting three branches back from Zi Wei. Tradition files it as a star of the central sky and gives it charge of career. It is also the father star: everyone reads their father through it, women also read their husband and men their son, so it tends to describe the important men in your life.
Honour means reputation and standing, not necessarily money; teachers like to say Tai Yang brings rank more than riches. Its nature is to shine outward: lighting the way for others, speaking up for them, serving the public, giving without keeping score. Paired with Tai Yin, the Moon, it is day to her night. Tai Yang shows public life and effort, Tai Yin inner life and savings.

Tai Yang in the Life Palace: personality
Tai Yang people are warm, frank and big-hearted. They like being needed and are often first to object when something is unfair. They speak plainly, act in the open and tend to lift the mood of any group, looking after everyone in it. Recognition matters to them more than they admit.
The blind spot is giving too much: treating other people's problems as their own, forgetting to rest, or taking on more than they can carry to save face. Their directness can also land harder than intended. Knowing the difference between helping someone and carrying them lets the light last.

Six Tai Yang pairings, by branch
Tai Yang shares a palace only with Tai Yin, Ju Men or Tian Liang; elsewhere it sits alone. Its brightness follows the daylight: Yin to Wu runs from sunrise to noon, Wei and Shen are afternoon, You is sunset and Xu through Chou are night. So the same pairing can feel very different in its two branches.

Read as Tai Yang in the Life Palace
This palaceOppositeTrineTai Yang appearance in tradition
Classical descriptions give Tai Yang people a square or round face, a broad, clear forehead, a ruddy or fair complexion, bright eyes and a carrying voice: a sunny, open first impression. A bright Sun is said to give a solid, energetic frame and a fallen one a leaner build and quieter face. Tian Liang adds an elder's warmth, Ju Men a talker's look. Read it as colour for character, not a forecast.
Tai Yang for women and men
Women with Tai Yang in the Life Palace are open, brisk and capable, often told they act like one of the boys, and they carry responsibility and mentor juniors. Because Tai Yang is also the husband star in a woman's chart, she tends to admire partners with drive and standing and expects them to be as straightforward as she is. Old texts worried about her strength; today it reads as ability. Leave room at home for the partner to shine too.
Men with Tai Yang are generous and loyal, care about reputation and often become the pillar of a family or team. In a man's chart the Sun also stands for sons, so time with his children is a life theme; when the star is dim, that bond needs more deliberate attention. His lesson is not to shoulder everyone's expectations alone.
Best careers for Tai Yang
Tai Yang brings honour, so it thrives where work is visible, serves the public or leads a team. With Ju Men it excels at speaking: teaching, law, media, sales. With Tian Liang it protects and checks: public service, medicine, social work, consulting. Sun and Moon together suit education and service. A dim Sun can shine too, usually after years of building expertise behind the scenes.
- Public service, politics, community work
- Teaching, public speaking, media (especially with Ju Men)
- Medicine, social work, consulting, charities (especially with Tian Liang)
- Diplomacy, languages, international trade, tourism
- Energy, power, lighting and other industries of light and heat
Tai Yang and money: an empty Wealth Palace, Zi Wei in Property
In half of all Tai Yang Life Palace charts the Wealth Palace is empty. From Zi or Wu it borrows Tian Ji and Tai Yin, from Chou or Wei Tian Ji and Ju Men, from Yin or Shen Tian Ji and Tian Liang, all from the Fortune Palace opposite, so the way you earn follows your mindset. For Tai Yang, money usually follows reputation and trust.
One fixed point: Zi Wei always sits in the Property Palace, so home and family assets tend to be solid and buying property is often the steadiest plan. The leaks are favours and face: treating, lending and guaranteeing loans for friends. Keep helping and money separate and the vault holds.
Tai Yang in love: Tian Tong always in the Spouse Palace
With Tai Yang in the Life Palace, Tian Tong, the star of ease, always sits in the Spouse Palace. Partners tend to be gentle, easy-going and good at enjoying life, often the one being looked after while Tai Yang gives and plans. Tian Tong's brightness shapes the details: Tai Yang in Yin puts Tian Tong and Tai Yin in Zi, both bright and tender; Tai Yang in Shen puts the same pair in Wu, where Tian Tong is fallen and moods need patience.
For a woman with Tai Yang, the star is also her husband star, so she expects a partner to stand up and take responsibility. What a Tai Yang marriage needs most is a division of roles: say the caring out loud and let the partner answer at their own pace. You do not have to be the only source of light.
Tai Yang and health
As a Fire star, Tai Yang is traditionally linked with the heart, circulation, blood pressure, the eyes and the head. Tai Yang people burn the candle at both ends, and late nights and overwork are the usual drain. Lian Zhen, another Fire star, always sits in their Health Palace, a second hint to cool down and rest. Treat this as tendency; any symptom deserves a doctor's view.
Tai Yang brightness: day and night palaces
Tai Yang is brightest (廟) in Mao, strong (旺) in Yin, Chen, Si and Wu, favoured (得) in Wei and Shen, average (平) in You, weak (不) in Chou and Xu, and fallen (陷) in Zi and Hai. Picture the branches as hours of the day: Yin and Mao are sunrise, Si and Wu midday, You sunset, and Xu through Chou the night.
A bright Sun is confident and visible; a dim Sun is just as warm but gives behind the scenes and waits longer for recognition. Old methods add that Tai Yang people born by day draw more strength from the star than those born at night, a refinement to take lightly. A dim Sun is not a bad chart: companion stars, Hua Lu and Hua Quan all add light.

Tai Yang and Tai Yin: the Sun and Moon patterns
Tai Yang and Tai Yin are a pair: the Sun rules outer life, rank, father and men; the Moon rules inner life, wealth, mother and women. Their positions mirror each other across the Chou and Wei axis, so they meet only in Chou and Wei. In Chou the Moon is bright and the Sun dim; in Wei the Sun is brighter and the Moon dim. People with this pair keep balancing reason and feeling, going out and pulling in.
When they sit apart, check each one's brightness. The sun and moon shining together usually means Tai Yang in Chen and Tai Yin in Xu, both bright and facing each other, a sign of open, steady success. The sun and moon turned away is Tai Yang in Xu and Tai Yin in Chen, both dim, which old texts read as later success earned through effort; many self-made people have it. A Tai Yin Life Palace in Chen or Xu sees the same pair from the other side.

Tai Yang Hua Lu, Hua Quan and Hua Ji
Tai Yang takes three transformations: Hua Lu in Geng years, Hua Quan in Xin years and Hua Ji in Jia years, with no Hua Ke. Check your birth-year stem; the year turns at Lunar New Year. Editions differ on the Geng-year Hua Ke and Hua Ji; we follow Tai Yin Hua Ke and Tian Tong Hua Ji.
祿The example chart is a 庚 year, so Tai Yang takes Hua Lu.
祿Tai Yang Hua Lu (Geng years)
A Geng birth year gives Tai Yang Hua Lu; the rest of the set is Wu Qu Hua Quan, Tai Yin Hua Ke and Tian Tong Hua Ji. The Sun's light turns into real gain: goodwill and reputation open paths to money, through public image, service or work across borders. The brighter the Sun, the stronger the effect.
權Tai Yang Hua Quan (Xin years)
Born in a Xin year, you have Tai Yang Hua Quan, with Ju Men Hua Lu, Wen Qu Hua Ke and Wen Chang Hua Ji. Influence grows, your words carry weight and leading or representing others comes naturally. The risk is good intentions turning into pressure on the people around you.
忌Tai Yang Hua Ji (Jia years)
A Jia birth year gives Tai Yang Hua Ji; the same year brings Lian Zhen Hua Lu, Po Jun Hua Quan and Wu Qu Hua Ke. You give a lot and are not always seen; reputation, gossip or ties with your father and older men can weigh on you, and eyes and sleep need care. The palace it lands in is where to pace yourself; it is not a curse.
Tai Yang in folklore: Bi Gan
When teachers explain the stars, Tai Yang is usually linked with Bi Gan from Investiture of the Gods: uncle and chief minister of the last Shang king, said to have a heart with seven openings, who kept warning the king at the cost of his life. He embodies the Sun's openness and selflessness. It is a folk and literary pairing to help memory and says nothing about the fate of Tai Yang people.
A decade or year in a Tai Yang palace
When a ten-year period reaches Tai Yang's palace, visibility and responsibility usually rise: promotion, a business, being pushed into the spotlight, or more caring at home. A bright Sun means riding that light; a dim one means a decade of groundwork and building trust. A Tai Yang year livens up reputation and relationships and is a good time to tend the bond with your father or elders. Budget your energy so warmth does not become exhaustion.
Advice for Tai Yang people
Before you help, check what you have left, and pause three seconds before saying yes. Say where your limits are; people respect you more for it. Reputation is your biggest asset, so keep promises and decline duties that are not yours. Keep regular hours, get outdoors and keep time for yourself. The Sun has to light itself before it can light anyone else for long.
