Siblings Palace in Zi Wei Dou Shu: Meaning and the 14 Stars
The Siblings Palace (兄弟宮) is the second palace, right next to the Life Palace. It describes your bond with brothers and sisters and with people on your own level: classmates, colleagues and business partners. Derived palaces add more: it is read for your mother, for partnerships, and as the storeroom of your Wealth Palace, meaning the cash you actually keep. Below is how to read it, then each major star here, an empty Siblings Palace and the four transformations. Add your birth details to see which stars sit in your own.

What the Siblings Palace means
Counting from the Life Palace, the Siblings Palace is the second. Traditionally it shows how many brothers and sisters you have, what they are like and how much they help. Families are smaller now, so the palace has widened to classmates, colleagues, friends of your generation and co-founders: anyone who stands level with you, competes with you and helps you.
It is also a small financial gauge, because it is the Property Palace of your Wealth Palace and shows how much cash stays in your hands. Old texts count siblings from the stars here; in an age of family planning, treat that as tradition only.
How to read the Siblings Palace in four steps
Read it in layers so one star's description is not pinned on every brother and sister you have.
- 1
Major stars and brightness: the star here sets the mood between you and your peers. If the palace is empty, borrow the stars of the Friends Palace opposite.
- 2
Three sides and four squares: read it with the Friends Palace opposite and the Health and Property palaces in trine, which bring in your wider circle, your constitution and family resources.
- 3
Transformationsa birth-year Hua Lu or Hua Ji in the Siblings or Friends Palace is the clearest signal about peers and money flowing between you.
- 4
Timingdecades and years that activate the Siblings Palace are when siblings and partners take up most of your attention.
The opposite palace and the trine
The Friends Palace sits opposite; older books call it the Servants Palace. Together they form the siblings and friends axis: on one side family and your closest peers, on the other friends, colleagues and staff. When the Siblings Palace is weak and the Friends Palace strong, friends often feel more like family than siblings do; people with deep sibling bonds tend to treat friends as family too.
The trine palaces are Health and Property. Health covers your body and emotional baseline, Property your home and real estate. Siblings, Health, Property and Friends together are the palace's three sides and four squares, which is why questions of inheritance, living with siblings or buying property together usually surface in this group.
The 14 major stars in the Siblings Palace
The Siblings Palace sits one step from the Life Palace, so many combinations are locked together: the star here often tells you exactly which star is in your Life Palace. Open any star for its full guide.
- 紫微
Zi Wei in the Siblings Palace
Capable, opinionated people among your siblings or peers, with mutual respect and very little willingness to take orders from each other. With Zi Wei here, Tian Ji always sits in the Spouse Palace and Tai Yang in the Wealth Palace: a clever partner, and income that leans on reputation and visibility. Working with siblings goes best when each of you owns a clear area.
Zi Wei guide - 天機
Tian Ji in the Siblings Palace
Tian Ji is the natural ruler of this palace, so it is at home here. Your siblings or classmates are quick and well informed, and conversations with them spark ideas. Tian Ji here always means Zi Wei in the Life Palace: the emperor has an adviser, so ask your peers when you are stuck. Paired with Tian Liang in Chen or Xu, siblings become reasoned counsellors.
Tian Ji guide - 太陽
Tai Yang in the Siblings Palace
Warm, outgoing siblings, often the ones who look after the whole family, and older siblings who tend to help you up. Wu Qu always sits in your Spouse Palace, pointing to a practical, capable partner. Brightness matters: from Yin to Wu the help is obvious; in Xu, Hai or Zi your siblings give a lot and tire, so say thank you often.
Tai Yang guide - 武曲
Wu Qu in the Siblings Palace
Straight, practical siblings who show love by turning up when you are short of money or hands, not with words. Wu Qu here always means Tai Yang in the Life Palace: you are the outgoing one, they work behind the scenes. Paired with Tan Lang in Chou or Wei, money and investing are common topics between you; keep any loans clearly accounted.
Wu Qu guide - 天同
Tian Tong in the Siblings Palace
Gentle, easy siblings and a relaxed home where arguments rarely last the night. Tian Tong here always means Wu Qu in the Life Palace: you are the tough, practical one and your siblings cushion the pressure. Eating and playing together comes naturally; if you go into business together, make sure someone owns the schedule.
Tian Tong guide - 廉貞
Lian Zhen in the Siblings Palace
Siblings with strong personalities and pride; you are very close when things are good and very stiff when they are not. With Lian Zhen here, Wu Qu always sits in the Property Palace in trine, so household money is handled practically and family assets or shared funds can come between you. Paired with Tan Lang in Si or Hai, agree on the rules before any partnership.
Lian Zhen guide - 天府
Tian Fu in the Siblings PalaceIn the example
The treasury star makes siblings steady and good at running a household, the people who can lend you money or a room when it counts. Tian Fu here always means Tai Yin in the Life Palace: you are the sensitive one, they are the reliable storehouse. Because this palace stores the Wealth Palace's cash, tradition also reads Tian Fu here as savings that stay put.
Tian Fu guide - 太陰
Tai Yin in the Siblings Palace
Gentle, attentive siblings; tradition speaks of close sisters or a woman in the family who looks after you. Tai Yin here always means Tan Lang in the Life Palace, so your outgoing appetite meets their quiet care. Brightest in Hai, Zi and Chou, the bond runs deep; fallen in Mao, Chen or Si, you care without saying so, so reach out first.
Tai Yin guide - 貪狼
Tan Lang in the Siblings Palace
Talented, sociable siblings who introduce you to new people and new hobbies. Tan Lang here always means Ju Men in the Life Palace: you are the sharp, analytical talker and they are the smooth networkers. Tan Lang is the star of desire, so quiet comparison between peers is common, and tradition advises against guaranteeing each other's loans.
Tan Lang guide - 巨門
Ju Men in the Siblings Palace
Ju Men rules talk, so there is a lot of it: you argued as children and may still argue over family matters. Ju Men here always means Tian Xiang in the Life Palace, so you are the family mediator and the one most likely to be caught in the middle. Say things openly and put important family decisions in writing.
Ju Men guide - 天相
Tian Xiang in the Siblings Palace
Fair-minded siblings who give good advice and help clean up after a mess. Tian Xiang here always means Tian Liang in the Life Palace: you act like the elder and they are your best deputies. Bright in Zi, Chou, Yin, Wu and Shen, mutual help is steady; fallen in Mao or You, kindness can turn into interference, so respect each other's choices.
Tian Xiang guide - 天梁
Tian Liang in the Siblings Palace
The shelter star brings an older sibling who looks after you like a parent, or makes you the one who worries for everyone. Tian Liang here always means Qi Sha in the Life Palace: you charge ahead out in the world with family backing behind you. Being protected also means being managed sometimes, so voice your boundaries along with your thanks.
Tian Liang guide - 七殺
Qi Sha in the Siblings Palace
Independent, competitive siblings with their own views from childhood, often building lives far apart. With Qi Sha here, Tian Liang always sits in the Spouse Palace and Ju Men in the Wealth Palace: a mature partner, and money made with words or expertise. Tradition calls the sibling bond thin; in modern terms, a little distance makes you more comfortable together.
Qi Sha guide - 破軍
Po Jun in the Siblings Palace
Siblings or peers with sharp edges and a relationship that rises and falls, drifting apart and coming back. With Po Jun here, Qi Sha always sits in the Health Palace and Tan Lang in the Property Palace. Po Jun spends, and it occupies the Wealth Palace's storeroom, so tradition warns that savings scatter with surprise costs; cap any joint venture or loan with siblings.
Po Jun guide
An empty Siblings Palace
With no major star here, borrow the stars of the Friends Palace opposite. The outline of your sibling bonds is fainter and shifts with life stages: very close as children and scattered as adults, or distant early and closer later. Tradition links an empty Siblings Palace to fewer siblings; today it is more often a sign of someone who treats classmates and friends as brothers and sisters.
The borrowed pair depends on the branch. Empty in Si or Hai, the opposite is always Lian Zhen with Tan Lang: many friends, many social evenings, and peers who are lively and a little competitive. Empty in Chen or Xu, you always borrow Tian Ji with Tian Liang, and peers trade advice and reasoned arguments. Minor stars inside, such as Lu Cun, Wen Chang or Qing Yang, count for more in an empty palace.
Hua Lu, Hua Quan, Hua Ke and Hua Ji in the Siblings Palace
A birth-year transformation here usually shows up in how siblings interact and how money moves between you.
祿Hua Lu in the Siblings Palace
Siblings and peers bring help and opportunities, and partnerships come together easily. Since this palace is a cash store, Hua Lu here also suggests some breathing room with money.
Hua Lu explained權Hua Quan in the Siblings Palace
A forceful sibling or colleague who often decides for you; if you want to lead the collaboration, first build the competence that earns their trust.
Hua Quan explained科Hua Ke in the Siblings Palace
Well-mannered or well-regarded siblings who will step in and make introductions when you are in trouble; the relationship stays calm and reasonable.
Hua Ke explained忌Hua Ji in the Siblings Palace
You worry about siblings or partners, and money or the care of parents can cause friction. It also asks you to keep a cash buffer and to lend or guarantee carefully.
Hua Ji explained
Minor stars in the Siblings Palace
Zuo Fu and You Bi make siblings and peers genuinely useful allies and teamwork smooth; Tian Kui and Tian Yue bring help from older siblings or seniors; Wen Chang and Wen Qu give talented siblings you can talk books and ideas with. Lu Cun here has a neat consequence: it is always flanked by Qing Yang ahead and Tuo Luo behind, so Qing Yang must sit in your Life Palace and Tuo Luo in your Spouse Palace. Tradition reads it as good at saving, with siblings who keep careful accounts.
Qing Yang and Tuo Luo in the Siblings Palace bring arguments or grudges that drag on; Huo Xing and Ling Xing, sudden clashes; Di Kong and Di Jie, money lost or very different outlooks. They mark where the relationship needs work, not a verdict that you will not get along.
The Siblings Palace and your mother
Treat the Parents Palace as your parents' Life Palace and count on: their Spouse Palace lands on your Siblings Palace. One school reads the Parents Palace mainly for the father and uses the Siblings Palace for the mother, her temperament, your bond with her and the emotional climate at home. Tai Yin here often describes a careful, home-loving mother; Qi Sha, a decisive mother used to carrying things alone.
The same derivation runs the other way: the Siblings Palace is also the Parents Palace of your Spouse Palace, meaning your partner's parents, your in-laws. A calm Siblings Palace with helpful stars usually means easier in-law relations. For anything about your mother, read it together with the Parents Palace and Tai Yin.
The storeroom of the Wealth Palace
Take the Wealth Palace as a Life Palace and count on, and its Property Palace falls on your Siblings Palace. Property is the storeroom, so this palace is read as the storeroom of money: cash in hand, savings and funds you can move at short notice. It is a classic teaching. The Wealth Palace says how you earn and spend; the Siblings Palace says how much is left at the end.
Wealth stars such as Tian Fu, Tai Yin or Wu Qu here, or Hua Lu and Lu Cun, traditionally mean money that stays. Po Jun, Di Kong and Di Jie, or Hua Ji, warn that cash slips away to surprise costs and favours to friends. If yours is on the weak side, automatic transfers and separate accounts build a small vault you simply do not touch.
Peers, partners and colleagues
Start-ups, shared flats and small teams are everywhere now, so the Siblings Palace has become a key palace for partnerships. It faces the Friends Palace: Siblings covers close partners whose fortunes are tied to yours, Friends the wider ring of friends, clients and staff. Steady stars and helpers here suit working alongside peers; heavy malefics or Hua Ji do not rule partnership out, but they call for written roles and an exit plan.
The workplace reads the same way: the Siblings Palace is the Health Palace of your Career Palace, so job stress often shows first in how you get on with peers. If colleagues keep rubbing you the wrong way, look at the stars in your own Siblings Palace and find the way of working that suits you.
Derived palaces: the other roles of the Siblings Palace
Beyond mother, in-laws, savings and work, the Siblings Palace has a few more derived roles. It is the Wealth Palace of your Property Palace, showing household spending; the Travel Palace of your Friends Palace, so your friends' progress out in the world feeds back into your circle of peers; and the Fortune Palace of your Children Palace, which tradition also checks for your children's interests and inner life.
For a beginner, three layers are plenty: the cash store, your mother and your partners. The rest is refinement to add once those feel familiar.
When a decade or year reaches the Siblings Palace
Yin men and yang women move their decades counterclockwise, so their second decade enters the Siblings Palace, roughly between ages 12 and 25 depending on the bureau. Peers, siblings and the first money you manage yourself tend to dominate it. Yang men and yin women move clockwise and would reach this palace only in their twelfth decade, past a hundred, so in practice they never do.
For a single year, find that year's Life Palace and step one palace counterclockwise to reach the yearly Siblings Palace. Hua Lu there often brings a peer's offer or help with cash flow; Hua Ji asks for care with loans, partnerships and family misunderstandings.
