Tian Fu StarThe Treasury of the Southern Dipper
Tian Fu (天府) is the leading star of the Southern Dipper: Yang Earth, transformed into 'command', and in charge of wealth and property, which is why it is called the treasury star. People with Tian Fu in the Life Palace are steady, generous and good at keeping what they build, like a well-run warehouse. Tian Fu is never fallen in any branch; what it fears is having its doors forced open. This guide covers its nature, six Life Palace pairings, why it takes no transformations, and its meaning in each palace. Add your birth details to find your Tian Fu.

Tian Fu is Yang Earth, the leading star of the Southern Dipper, and it transforms into command (令). It rules the Wealth and Property palaces and heads the Tian Fu group: Tian Fu, Tai Yin, Tan Lang, Ju Men, Tian Xiang, Tian Liang, Qi Sha and Po Jun are all placed from Tian Fu, mirroring the six stars led by Zi Wei. Tian Fu's own position mirrors Zi Wei across the Yin to Shen axis, so the two meet only in Yin and Shen.
Command means management; the treasury means storing and keeping. Tian Fu is not always the biggest earner, but it is the best at holding and allocating resources. It also has a permanent counterpart: Qi Sha always sits opposite Tian Fu, one guarding and one charging, so a Tian Fu Life Palace always has Qi Sha in the Travel Palace. Tian Liang always sits in its Friends Palace and Tai Yin in its Parents Palace, so friends and elders tend to be kind.

Tian Fu in the Life Palace: personality
With Tian Fu in the Life Palace you are likely steady, generous and tolerant, with a sense of order and dignity, a good head for money and a habit of looking after people. Others relax when you are in charge. You have the bearing of a general but little appetite for risk, and you like quality in food, clothes and home without spending wildly.
The blind spots are caution and pride. Tian Fu dislikes change, plans for the worst case and can prepare so long that the moment passes; with resources in hand, it is slow to delegate. Its lesson is to keep one door open for new income, so the warehouse takes in fresh stock as well as storing the old.

Six Tian Fu pairings, by branch
Tian Fu shares a palace only with Zi Wei (Yin and Shen), Wu Qu (Zi and Wu) and Lian Zhen (Chen and Xu), and sits alone in the other six branches. In every case the Travel Palace holds Qi Sha and the Career Palace holds Tian Xiang: a constant pull to move forward outside, and the seal star supporting you at work. That is the skeleton of every Tian Fu chart.

This palaceOppositeTrineTian Fu appearance in tradition
Classical texts describe Tian Fu people with a square or rounded face, regular features, fair skin and a medium, solid build; they move without hurry, speak at an even pace, and put others at ease, and many fill out in middle age. With Zi Wei the bearing is stately, with Wu Qu the frame is sturdy and the eyes firm, with Lian Zhen the features are sharp with a hint of authority. Take it as a sketch of the star's character, not a description of you.
Tian Fu for women and men
Women with Tian Fu in the Life Palace are dignified and generous, run a household well and manage money, often the one the family or office turns to for decisions. Tradition rates the female Tian Fu very highly as a bringer of prosperity. Today she is usually financially independent; the risks are wanting to control every family budget, or swallowing hurt to keep face. Saying what she needs makes her marriage steadier.
Men with Tian Fu are steady and responsible, devoted to family and open-handed, natural managers whom elders trust. The weak spots are caution and a reluctance to express feelings, letting gifts speak instead of words. For both, marriage is best read through the Po Jun that always sits in the Spouse Palace, covered below.
Best careers for Tian Fu: Tian Xiang always in the Career Palace
With Tian Fu in the Life Palace, Tian Xiang always sits in the Career Palace. The treasury meets the seal, so the best fit is managing resources and people inside a system with clear rules; tradition says Tian Fu should guard rather than attack. It may not lead the charge, but it is the person an organisation trusts with the budget and the books.
- Banking, accounting, finance and insurance (especially with Wu Qu)
- Property, asset management, warehousing and logistics
- Business management, senior administration and HR (Zi Wei pairing leans to leadership)
- Public service and large, well-structured organisations
- Food, luxury goods and lifestyle businesses
Tian Fu and money: Tan Lang always faces the Wealth Palace
With Tian Fu in the Life Palace, Tan Lang always sits in the Fortune Palace, which lies opposite the Wealth Palace. Tian Fu's attitude to money therefore carries some of Tan Lang's appetite: you want a good life and will pay for taste. In three layouts the Wealth Palace is empty and borrows Tan Lang with Zi Wei, Lian Zhen or Wu Qu; in the other three it holds Lian Zhen, Wu Qu or Zi Wei, all stars that can manage money.
Tian Fu money is kept money: salary, savings, assets and property built up over years. Ju Men always sits in the Property Palace, so get titles, contracts and paperwork right when buying or selling a home. The usual losses come from spending to keep face, overspending on comfort, or being so cautious that inflation eats the savings.
Tian Fu in love: Po Jun always in the Spouse Palace
With Tian Fu in the Life Palace, Po Jun always sits in the Spouse Palace. Steady Tian Fu is drawn to bold, individual, unpredictable people who bring energy and change, and the need for adjustment. Po Jun's companion varies: Wu Qu for a Chou or Wei chart, Zi Wei for Mao or You, Lian Zhen for Si or Hai, and alone in the other three. For a Yin or Shen chart that Po Jun is brightest, and the partner's pioneering streak is strongest.
In a relationship Tian Fu provides care and security and keeps home in good order, but rarely says sweet things and minds its pride. Tradition suggests marrying a little later, once your lifestyles have meshed. When your partner wants change, listen to the end before blocking it; that patience is what a Tian Fu marriage needs most.
Tian Fu and health
As an Earth star, Tian Fu is traditionally linked with the stomach, digestion and metabolism. Its people enjoy food and often entertain, so weight, blood sugar and cholesterol are the usual reminders after forty; regular meals and fewer late-night snacks beat any supplement. Use this as a nudge for self-care, and see a doctor about any actual symptoms.
Tian Fu brightness: no fallen branches
Tian Fu is brightest (廟) in Zi, Chou, Yin, Chen, Wei and Xu, strong (旺) in Wu and You, and favoured (得) in Mao, Si, Shen and Hai. It is never fair, neutral, weak or fallen, one of the few major stars with no dim position. So the question with Tian Fu is not how bright it is but what is in the vault: Lu Cun or Hua Lu fill it, while Di Kong and Di Jie leave it empty and Hua Ji forces it open, the traditional empty and exposed treasury.

Why Tian Fu never transforms
In the standard table from the Complete Book of Zi Wei Dou Shu, the ten stems never give Hua Lu, Hua Quan, Hua Ke or Hua Ji to Tian Fu, Tian Xiang or Qi Sha, so Tian Fu itself does not transform. Some editions give Tian Fu Hua Ke in Ren or Geng years; we use the common table. One way to see it: a vault's job is to receive and keep, so the vault does not change, only what goes in and out of it.
Not transforming does not mean untouched. Tian Fu rises or falls with its companions: with Zi Wei, Hua Ke in Yi years and Hua Quan in Ren years add standing; with Wu Qu, Hua Lu in Ji years is best, while Hua Ji in Ren years is like prising the vault door open, the traditional exposed treasury; with Lian Zhen, Hua Lu in Jia years brings money and Hua Ji in Bing years brings disputes. A lone Tian Fu takes its cue from the stars opposite. Di Kong and Di Jie make an empty treasury: hard to hold, with unplanned costs.
The example chart is a 庚 year: Tian Fu has no birth-year transformation.
Tian Fu in folklore: Queen Jiang
Popular tradition links Tian Fu with Queen Jiang, the first wife of the last Shang king in Investiture of the Gods. Dignified and virtuous, she ran the inner palace, warned the king against his excesses and was destroyed by Daji's schemes. Upright, careful and in charge of the household: that is Tian Fu. A neat detail: Daji is Tan Lang, and Tan Lang always sits in a Tian Fu person's Fortune Palace, so the two rivals share one chart. It is a literary device, not a forecast.
A decade or year in a Tian Fu palace
A ten-year period in the palace holding Tian Fu is a time to accumulate: save, buy property, step into management and settle the family. A Tian Fu year usually brings steadier income and daily life. Watch for Di Kong, Di Jie or Hua Ji hitting the vault in the same period, which raises unplanned spending, and for the opposite risk of holding so tight that opportunities walk past.
Advice for Tian Fu people
Give your finances a yearly check-up and plan new income alongside what you protect. Keep face for the outside world and share real feelings at home. When a Qi Sha kind of challenge arrives, treat it as a chance to enlarge the vault rather than a threat. Tian Fu's great gift is stability, and stability depends on resources that keep moving.
