What is the Wu Qu star?

Wu Qu is Yin Metal and the sixth star of the Northern Dipper, matched with Mizar in the sky. It transforms into wealth (財) and rules the Wealth Palace. Several stars touch money: Tian Fu is the treasury and Tai Yin stands for riches, but Wu Qu is earned money, made by action and execution. It belongs to the Zi Wei group, four branches back from Zi Wei, which is why Zi Wei always sits in the Career Palace of a Wu Qu Life Palace.

Wealth here means more than cash: it is control of resources and concrete results. Wu Qu is a hard star; Metal decides and cuts, so it acts quickly, values efficiency and meets problems head-on. The same hardness is its weakness. It finds feelings hard to voice and can seem cold or distant, though underneath it is fiercely loyal.

Wu Qu

Wu Qu in the Life Palace: personality

Wu Qu people are practical, reliable and strong on follow-through: once they decide, they act. They are good with numbers, spend to a plan and would rather let results do the talking than argue a case. Give them a task and it usually comes back on time and correct.

The blind spot is rigidity. They speak bluntly, leave others no room to save face and put logic ahead of feelings, which can hurt people without meaning to. They also bottle up pressure and carry it alone. Slowing down a little and adding one kind word makes a big difference.

  • Strengths

decisive, practical, trustworthy, good with money, hard-working

  • Watch for

stubbornness, harsh words, difficulty showing feelings, carrying stress alone

  • Key words

    wealth, decision, execution, toughness, independence

Six Wu Qu pairings, by branch

Wu Qu shares a palace with Tian Fu, Tan Lang, Tian Xiang, Qi Sha or Po Jun and sits alone only in Chen and Xu, so there are six Life Palace patterns. In every one, Lian Zhen sits in the Wealth Palace and Zi Wei in the Career Palace; the companion star decides the character.

Wu Qu appearance in tradition

Old texts describe Wu Qu people as not especially tall but solidly built, with a square or round face, sharp eyes, a strong voice and brisk movements: capable, shrewd and not someone to cross. With Tian Fu the look is sturdier, with Tan Lang more charismatic, with Qi Sha or Po Jun more angular. This is folklore; what people really remember is a Wu Qu who does exactly what it says.

Wu Qu for women and men

Women with Wu Qu in the Life Palace are independent and capable, often more decisive than the men around them, with an especially clear head for money. Old texts list Wu Qu as a star of solitude and warn that the female chart is too hard; in modern terms, she does not need to lean on anyone and will not shrink to keep the peace. She suits a partner who respects her career and is not threatened by her strength.

Men with Wu Qu are practical and dependable, often the family's financial pillar, and show love by getting things done and bringing money home rather than with sweet talk. His lesson is communication: share the feelings and the effort, not only the results. He does well by going deep in one field for many years.

Best careers for Wu Qu

As ruler of the Wealth Palace, Wu Qu suits work tied directly to money, resources or technical skill, and fields that reward discipline and decisions. Zi Wei always sits in the Career Palace, so Wu Qu has room to climb and is often pushed into management over time. Tradition also favours military and police work; today that stretches to engineering, manufacturing and any job that takes nerve.

  • Finance, banking, accounting, investment, insurance
  • Corporate finance, procurement, operations
  • Engineering, machinery, metals, tech manufacturing
  • Military, police, fire service, security, sport
  • Business and sales (especially with Tan Lang or Qi Sha)

Wu Qu and money: Lian Zhen always in the Wealth Palace

With Wu Qu in the Life Palace, Lian Zhen always sits in the Wealth Palace. Lian Zhen transforms into restraint and deals in rules and limits, so Wu Qu money often comes through contracts, regulations and professional standards, and spending follows principles rather than impulse. With Tian Fu in the Life Palace, Lian Zhen sits alone and bright in Wealth for steady income; with Tian Xiang, Lian Zhen pairs with Tian Fu, the fullest treasury of the six.

Wu Qu money is made by doing: salaries, professional fees and your own business beat speculation. With Po Jun the Wealth Palace holds Lian Zhen and Qi Sha, with Qi Sha it holds Lian Zhen and Tan Lang, and income swings more, so fix a savings rate and stop-loss rules. The most common leak is too much faith in your own judgement and betting too much at once.

Wu Qu in love: the solitary star and later marriage

Old texts call Wu Qu a star of solitude (寡宿) and advise later marriage for people with Wu Qu in the Life or Spouse Palace. That does not mean a lonely life. Wu Qu is independent, career-focused and slow to show feelings, so love often comes second when young; marrying once character and finances have settled usually gives a steadier bond.

From Zi-Wu to Chen-Xu, the Spouse Palace holds Po Jun, Tian Fu, Tan Lang, Tian Xiang and Qi Sha, and in Si or Hai it is empty and borrows Zi Wei and Tan Lang, so partners tend to have strong views. Wu Qu with Tan Lang meets Tian Fu and Wu Qu with Qi Sha meets Tian Xiang, which bring security; Wu Qu with Tian Fu meets Po Jun and more change. Love is not only paying the bills; say it sometimes.

Wu Qu and health

As a Metal star, Wu Qu is traditionally linked with the lungs, airways, nose and skin. Wu Qu people tend to push through, letting a cough or cold run on before they rest, and in a hurry they collect bumps and small cuts. These are traditional tendencies; if something is wrong, a doctor's check comes first.

Wu Qu brightness by branch

Wu Qu is brightest (廟) in the four storage branches Chou, Chen, Wei and Xu, strong (旺) in Zi and Wu, favoured (得) in Yin and Shen, fair (利) in Mao and You and average (平) in Si and Hai. Like Zi Wei, it has no weak or fallen position. Bright, the wealth star judges well and holds on to money; in Mao, You, Si and Hai the drive remains, but clashes and money that comes and goes are likelier. Companions, transformations and malefics such as Qing Yang or Huo Xing often matter more.

Wu Qu Hua Lu, Hua Quan, Hua Ke and Hua Ji

Wu Qu takes all four: Hua Lu in Ji years, Hua Quan in Geng years, Hua Ke in Jia years and Hua Ji in Ren years. Because Wu Qu is the wealth star, its transformations show up most in money and career. The year turns at Lunar New Year. Editions differ on the Geng-year Hua Ke and Hua Ji and on the Ren-year Hua Ke; we use Tai Yin, Tian Tong and Zuo Fu.

權The example chart is a 庚 year, so Wu Qu takes Hua Quan.

  • 祿Wu Qu Hua Lu (Ji years)

A Ji birth year gives Wu Qu Hua Lu, joined by Tan Lang Hua Quan, Tian Liang Hua Ke and Wen Qu Hua Ji. The wealth star gaining Hua Lu is the most direct money boost: more chances to earn and sharper judgement, good for business, investing and finance work. Make sure money that comes in also stays.

  • 權Wu Qu Hua Quan (Geng years)

Born in a Geng year, you have Wu Qu Hua Quan next to Tai Yang Hua Lu, Tai Yin Hua Ke and Tian Tong Hua Ji. Command of resources and decisions grows, so you have the final say in finance, management or technical work. It can tip into acting alone; get a second opinion before big spending.

  • 科Wu Qu Hua Ke (Jia years)

Born in a Jia year, you have Wu Qu Hua Ke together with Lian Zhen Hua Lu, Po Jun Hua Quan and Tai Yang Hua Ji. Good financial credit and orderly work earn recognition for skill and integrity, and when cash is tight someone is usually willing to help.

  • 忌Wu Qu Hua Ji (Ren years)

A Ren birth year gives Wu Qu Hua Ji, with Tian Liang Hua Lu, Zi Wei Hua Quan and Zuo Fu Hua Ke completing the set. Cash flow gets stuck, money causes friction and words turn harder. In the palace it lands in, manage money conservatively and do not guarantee loans or bet big; steady cash flow carries you through.

Wu Qu in folklore: King Wu of Zhou

Popular tradition links Wu Qu with King Wu of Zhou, Ji Fa, from Investiture of the Gods: King Wen's son, who carried on his father's mission, led the lords against the Shang at the Battle of Muye and founded the Zhou dynasty. Decisive and ready to act, he is a fair picture of Wu Qu's toughness. The link is literary and helps memory; it predicts nothing.

People also ask about the Wu Qu star lord. Taoism worships the seven stars of the Northern Dipper as star lords, and Wu Qu is the sixth, honoured in Dipper rituals. That is religious practice, a different matter from the Wu Qu star in your chart.

Wu Qu as Life Master

Your Life Master is set by the branch of your Life Palace: if the Life Palace is in Si or Wei, the Life Master is Wu Qu. It colours your instincts, so a Wu Qu Life Master is practical and efficient underneath and first asks whether something can be done and whether it is worth it. Even with a gentle main star in the Life Palace, Wu Qu-style decisiveness appears when it counts.

A common combination is Life Master Wu Qu with Body Master Tian Ji: a Life Palace in Si or Wei and a birth year of the Snake or Pig, counted from Lunar New Year. Practical by nature, you also handle things by planning as life goes on. If Wu Qu itself sits in a Si or Wei Life Palace, the Wu Qu traits are doubled. Taoist Dipper rites also match people born in Si and Wei years to Wu Qu; that is a separate system based on the birth year.

The example chart's Life Master is Prosperity and its Body Master is Fire Star.

Life Master and Body Master lookup

A decade or year in a Wu Qu palace

When a ten-year period reaches Wu Qu's palace, money and capability take centre stage: a raise, a role with real authority, a business, a major investment, or a mortgage and the family budget. Hua Lu or Hua Quan on Wu Qu make it a decade for building wealth; with Hua Ji or malefics, protect cash flow and avoid high-risk moves. A Wu Qu year is the time to turn plans into action and settle accounts.

Advice for Wu Qu people

Efficiency is your strength, but people are not machines: start with a word of care, then the request. Set money rules for yourself, such as a fixed savings rate and a cap on any single investment, so your judgement has brakes. In love, say what you feel instead of only doing. Wu Qu's hardness is a fine blade, and it stays sharpest when you know when to sheathe it.
